What To Do When You Are Going Through Change

We all go through changes, growth, transformations. If you, like me, are focused on personal growth, you probably go through some form of change or transformation fairly often. However, from time to time a big breakthrough or shift happens, and it can throw us off balance.

This is something that is very real for me right now. I am going through a big transformation and I want to share with you what it looks and feels like and how to feel good about your experience.

Often, we we seek big breakthroughs and transformations because we know these will help us to get even closer to what we desire, to living a fulfilling and beautiful life.

Beautiful Sunset in San Diego

A few weeks ago, I went to an inspiring event for women called Beautiful for Live, which I was delighted to attend for the second time in San Diego. The event was beautiful in every way – from elegant environment to special details and gifts, everything was designed to enhance our experience. Connecting with inspiring women, enjoying deep conversations, wearing elegant outfits, eating delicious meals – all this made the experience really special.

While enjoying the beauty around us and within us and having fun, we also happened to make big shifts inside ourselves. I left the event feeling inspired and uplifted.

No matter how amazing I feel after such experience, going back home and getting back to my day-t0-day always feels uncomfortable. Some things no longer fit after transformations, like old patterns and points of view. But before the new ways settle in, I noticed how uncomfortable and unsettled I can feel, which is exactly what happened this time.

One moment I feel amazing, next I get deeply affected by something insignificant, or, sometimes, feel down or low energy without an obvious reason. I have learned to accept that this is what going through growth or a big change feels like and to continue to receive that magic that is there for me in this process.

The tips below will help you to go through a change or transformation and feeling good about your experience.

1. Self-compassion is key

Without self-compassion it is difficult to go through this process. Recognise that you are going through a change, shift, experiencing growth pain. Be gently with yourself. Listen to your needs. Give yourself a break. The more self-compassionate you are with yourself, the easier the process will be.

2. Slow down

And I mean really slow down. If your work/lifestyle allows it, create some space to rest and simply be. If you don’t have much flexibly in your life, ensure that you don’t take on any unnecessary commitments. It is ok to say no to others, by doing so you say yes to yourself.

3. Up your self-care

Pay attention to your body and its needs. Make sure to move as much as necessary. I have been dancing every morning for 10 minutes, it really helps me to connect to my body and move the energy. This is a good time to create a special routine for yourself: a morning mediation or dance practice, an evening bath ritual.

4. Be available to receive insights

When you step into your next level, growth and shifts continue to take place for some time after a breakthrough. Be available to receive further insights. This week I spent every morning journalling and every evening I asked my subconsciousness for clarifications before bedtime. Slowing down allows you to hear more.

5. Go with the flow

It is important to trust yourself and your experience at this time, even if it feels a bit unsettling. Pay attention to what you feel called to do or experience and follow your inner guidance. In my case, I felt called to paint this week after not touching my paints for 9 months. I chose to cancel all activities I had planned to immerse myself in intuitive painting process, which brought so much clarity and additional healing.

6. Remember, this is not permanent

When we feel discomfort and lack of balance it is very tempting to want to rush through the unsettling experience. Remember that this is only a temporary period. You have experienced big shifts and now you are adjusting to or, in some cases, discovering your new normal. Receive what is there for you from this beautiful opportunity.

I would love to hear from you.
